Letitia of Metal As Fuck zine’s Music Journalism 101 online course is a very good read not only to the journalists working in the industry but also to the photographers working beside them in this industry. I just finished reading one of the posts for this course and it reminded me of all the great advice Deb Bela (then Deb Aldred) gave me to help me when I did my first music interview way back in 1999 with Jeff Martin (then still with The Tea Party).
The course is free and those keen on the metal scene will really like the interviews Letitia does with some of the biggest names in metal.

At the very least, I’ll soon have an entire shopfront with very high foot traffic entirely covered with 72inch high prints.
The regular fashion shoots for Voodoo Lulu will soon become part of the Valley’s landscape.
If you hadn’t kept up recently, I’m now based in 240 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley, with my studio in the front of Voodoo Lulu.

Blatant self promotion here – well, that and testing if my brain can handle messing with code while under attack of a migraine… seemed like a win, showed in preview juuussst fine but the CSS for the main page refuses to allow the iframe tags.
I’m looking at purchasing a copy of Nikon Camera Control software for running tethered shooting in studio and think I have found the cheapest source for the latest version. I’ve messed with the trial versions previously and found it fun but soon will be integrating the laptop as a real tool for studio work to give instant high res feedback to models, creative directors or direct clients as to how their shoots are appearing on file. Nikon Mall
As the files pass from the D3 to the laptop hard drive via this software, they then get grabbed immediately by Adobe Lightroom for bulk edits, keywording on the fly and rating mid shoot.

Next step will be working out framing options and then you ought to expect to see print sales of the alternative/gothic genre work through Voodoo Lulu. I’m just started now on designing the front window inserts for the shop as well for branding and can’t wait to have those printed as well. Huge thanks to the wonderful crew at Digilab for their consistently PERFECT prints! I won’t trust my prints to any other lab.

Voodoo Lulu has recently opened at 240 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley in Brisbane. Their range is impressive and their prices quite simply blew a few of us away. We’re seeing high quality corsets in there at half of the prices seen listed in competing alternative store in Australia. The corsets are locally designed and very well made, with steel boning and varying styles to suit most tastes. The extensive mens collection is due to arrive in a shipment (inc. Tripp, Shrine and many more labels) over the next week or so but in the meantime, they still have the best full length leather coats I’ve ever seen and they’ve been adding new items to their ladies collection daily. I did a quick shoot in there the weekend before last and Violet Vex is now featured on their advertising flyers and business cards.

I’m looking forward to a big future with this store as I used to sell my hand painted designs and t-shirts through the same crew when they long ago ran Dark Obsession in the Valley Station. Below are the business cards I designed for them. Once the website has been developed I will share the link to that. I have a lot of product photography, coding and design to sort out before getting that out.

For its 10th consecutive year, the Queensland Living History Federation (Inc) will present a multi-period re-enactment event… History Alive: a journey through time at Fort Lytton National Park in 2009.
